Awajún Water Vessel ‘Yumi’
Beautiful handmade miniature Awajún ceramic pottery water or liquid vessel, handmade in Amazonas, Peruby the Awajún community of Cocoashi. It is called a “yumi” and features a distinctive gourd shape and pure, bright achiote red color. This is one of two sample pieces, from our first meeting. In 2021 the Awajún process of making ceramics was inscribed onto the UNESCO list of Intangible World Heritage. This elegant process includes many steps of making pottery only from materials found in the rainforest, and marked with patterns referring to the nature around the community. This gorgeous piece is larger and so works well as a display or fruit bowl; it works well in a dollhouse kitchen or dining room setting, or display item in any other room.
