Gorgeous jaguar mask sculpture hade by hand by Jose Eduardo Ramos de Águila, Ticuna. This new batch is larger than his previous works, but the fact that he is making art again is a real accomplishment. Jose Eduardo had cataracts removed from his eyes well over a year ago and he hasn’t been able to work. These are exquisitely carved and painted artworks. In a 1:12 setting they would be a very large floor or table sculpture.
Originally conceived as the mask attached to a yanchama dress during the pelazon, Jose Eduardo has perfected many animals in these mask forms.
While not a titled artist per se, Jose Eduardo is widely recognized as the best painter in Amazonas. He has been the teacher to many artists who went on to win awards with national organizations.
