A vignette by Lazaro Bautista Manduco. The piece is part of the Ticuna story about the origin of night and day. In the story, a sloth on top of a ceiba is holding up the sky and all was dark. Joi begins asking the forest animals to help chop down the ceiba, and one of the first of these was the woodpecker. The woodpecker ultimately does not succeed, but he is earnest in his effort. Ceiba is an enormous rainforest tree, the Tree of Life.’ In this vignette we see Woodpecker valiantly attempting to chop the ceiba.
